What You Need to Know about Carpet Installation

After you have chosen your carpet, the next step is to get it installed. Before your installers arrive, it is important to be ready for them to help the process go smoothly. Depending on the size of the project, it can be a long process and knowing ahead of time what to expect can help the process go smoother. Here’s what you need to know:

Old Flooring

Before your new carpet can be installed, you’ll need to decide what to do with your old flooring. We can help by removing and disposing of it for you. Otherwise, this will need to be done before the day of installation.

Furniture

Installers can’t install carpet with furniture and items on the floor, so these will need to be moved out of the area getting new carpet before the installers arrive. Our installers can help move heavy furniture for you, but you’ll still need to take care of the smaller things, like lamps, electronics, and any breakables.

Seams

If the room where your new carpet is going to be installed is larger than a single roll of carpet, there will be seams. Dealing with seams is the number one reason why you should hire a professional carpet installer. Professionals have years of experience to help make seams less noticeable. What type of carpet you buy can also help to minimize seams. Shorter carpet fibers, like Berber carpet, will have more noticeable seams than longer carpet fibers, like shags.

After the Flooring Is Installed

Once your new flooring is installed there are several things that you may notice:

  1. A Smell – On top of the adhesives used in the carpet backing, there is also some smell given off by the adhesives or seam tapes that are used to adhere two pieces of carpet. These smells should dissipate in a few days, but fans or open windows can help the smell disappear faster.
  2. Shedding – It is normal after new carpet is installed to see stray carpet fibers. Your new carpet will need good, frequent vacuuming for the first couple of days to remove any of the excess fibers.
  3. Carpet Issues – If you notice any wrinkles or bumps in your new carpet, give us a call as soon as possible so we can come and take a look.

The carpet installation process can seem daunting, which is why we try to make the process as stress-free as possible. We do this by taking care of your old flooring for you, helping you move your furniture, and using great, reputable installation teams.
